Decree-Law 75/2014, which updates the transposition into national law of Directive 2004/54/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on minimum safety requirements for tunnels of the Trans-European Road Network, designates the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC) as supervisory authority. While conducting safety inspections, LNEC evaluate experimentally the performance of ventilation and smoke control systems. In this paper we describe the methodology adopted.
