NATIONAL CONGRESS OF EXPERIMENTAL MECHANICS
APAET’s main event is the National Congress of Experimental Mechanics, which has been held since 1986 with some irregularity and since 2008 has become a biennial event.
All these meetings were organized with the aim of providing a forum for the discussion and dissemination of the latest findings in the areas of Experimental Stress Analysis and Experimental Mechanics, as well as bringing together mechanical, aeronautical and civil engineers, and other Portuguese researchers and scientists, to exchange ideas and experiences in these areas.
The various National Meetings were held in different national R&D Institutions, in order to ensure the dissemination and diffusion of knowledge in APAET’s areas of intervention, and contributions were presented and discussed in the following thematic areas:

Visit to the Baixo Sabor hydroelectric plant
Dear Members,
The National Program for Dams with High Hydroelectric Potential (PNBEPH) foresees the construction of new large dams and the strengthening of some existing ones over the next few years, some of which are already underway. Aware of the importance of these projects for national engineering, APAET has developed contacts with the owners of the developments to provide members with direct contact with these important new projects. APAET is also organizing a visit to the Baixo Sabor hydroelectric plant. EDP made itself available to host and promote a guided tour of the project. The detailed program of the visit will be published on the APAET website in due course, but in general terms, it will initially consist of a presentation of the project by EDP, followed by a visit to the two dams, upstream and downstream. The visit is scheduled for May 15th. Depending on the number of people who sign up, the means of transport will be determined, but the meeting point will probably be near the development. Interested members are asked to send an e-mail to APAET (apaet@lnec.pt) by April 20th. Any questions can be answered through APAET’s normal means of contact.
Best regards,
Jorge GomesLocal:
