Bone fixation with aesthetic integration: experimental and computational evaluation of filigree calcaneal osteosynthesis plates

ABSTRACT:
This study presents a new osteosynthesis plate for the calcaneus. Its biomechanical characterization was carried out using computational models and experimental tests with synthetic bone, comparing a filigree plate (2 mm thickness, five screws) with a commercially available equivalent plate, showing good agreement between numerical and experimental results. The new plate demonstrated biomechanical behavior comparable to that of the commercial plate, with von Mises stresses of around 450 MPa and similar levels of stabilization, indicating its suitability for bone healing, particularly in bones subjected to low or moderate mechanical loads.
