ABSTRACT:

This study aims at evaluating the shear behaviour of ancient brick masonry walls of mixed masonry-concrete buildings. For this purpose, masonry wall specimens were built using original solid ceramic bricks, resulting from the demolition of old buildings. Cement-based laying mortars were used with a 1:5 cement:sand ratio, based on data obtained in project of existing buildings with the same constructive typology. The obtained results were compared with a study on the behavior of original walls taken directly from existing masonry buildings, with the same type of brick and a laying mortar based on hydrated lime. This paper also presents the characterization tests carried out to determine the mechanical properties of the constituent materials of the studied masonry.
