ABSTRACT:
Wooden trusses with traditional pin connections are generally modeled as pinned joints, and the forces on the bars are then transmitted for the connection’s design. Other methodologies recommend that the analysis should be done more rigorously, taking into account the stress distribution, the behavior of the wood and the evaluation of the distribution of stresses in the connection area. There is a wide range of information related to pin-type connections, but the mechanical analysis of stress distribution in punched metal plate fasteners is still under development. The present paper compares two methodologies for the stress distribution in the rupture lines of punched metal plate fasteners, using an analytical approach and a numerical method by the commercial software Midas/Gen. The results present the validation of the analytical model for the simplest case of a single rupture line, but confront the premises of stress redistribution between adjacent lines.
