ABSTRACT:
During the drilling process, often used for implant fixation, there is a temperature rise in bone adjacent tissue. If the temperature rises too high (above 47˚) can occur bone necrosis with consequent decrease of efficiency in the anchoring system. In this study, it was used ex-vivo bovine femurs for the purpose of studying the effect of drill speed and drill bit diameter in the bone temperature increasing during the drilling process. The parameters achieved for the experimental tests were obtained based on the Taguchi method, which is applied to find the optimal combination of these parameters. It was used an orthogonal matrix L9 and analysed the S/N ratio and the Pareto proportion, to obtain the effect and the interaction of each parameter in the process.
