Aerodynamic testing of a pedestrian suspended bridge
Authors: Fernando Marques da Silva
ABSTRACT:
The presented work refers to the aerodynamic behaviour of the 516 Arouca suspended bridge. A set of wind tunnel tests were performed over a scaled model in order to obtain static aerodynamic coefficients and the dynamic response. For the static tests different configurations were tested: i) deck; ii) deck with catenaries; iii) deck with users, and; iv) deck and the arches to guide the secondary cables. For the dynamic tests only the deck was used and, as the main displacement mode is swinging an appropriate suspension scheme had to be implemented.
