SCADA system design for the new industry 4.0 paradigm
Authors: Luís Vicente, Mário J.G.C. Mendes.
ABSTRACT:
ndustry 4.0 introduced major changes, not only in the need for high levels of automation, but above all in the need for efficient communication processes. Thus, it is essential to understand and adapt supervisory, control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to the new Industry 4.0 paradigm. In the scope of this subject, this paper proposes, using a commercial software platform, a new paradigm of SCADA system to integrate the concept of intelligent factory, meeting the necessary industry digitization. To this end, a universal SCADA software was designed, which addressed some of the new capabilities introduced by Industry 4.0, such as interaction with the industrial internet of things, cloud computing, machine-machine communication, Big Data and Cybersecurity. To demonstrate the new and necessary capabilities of SCADA systems, a real case study was implemented, demonstrating the ongoing digital transformation.
