The Portuguese Association for the Experimental Analysis of Stresses (APAET), founded on 29 July 1982, is a non-profit cultural and scientific association of individuals and companies whose aim is to:

• Promote scientific and technical co-operation in the field of experimental knowledge of Structural Mechanics and, in particular, Experimental Stress Analysis, with a view to developing and using measuring devices and processes for determining stresses in materials and in all types of structures and mechanisms or their components.
• To ensure Portuguese representation in the European Society for Experimental Mechanics (EURASEM) and the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM).
