ABSTRACT:

The hip arthroplasty presents a high success rate, nevertheless, in long term there are some failure associated. The highest reason of failure is related with aseptic loosening, however, the load transfer is also a critical factor which influences the remodelling of the bone structures. The purpose of this study was to validate the biomechanical behaviour of the total hip joint replacement. The models of the hip joint in this study were composed by the iliac and the femur, where subsequently were placed a commercial press-fit prosthesis. Was assessed the biomechanical behaviour of the implanted hip joint through the use a numerical and experimental model in order to compare the strain distribution around the acetabulum in the both different load cases. The main goal of this work was possible to validate the numerical models of the hip joint with r2 0.93 for 600N in correlation between numerical and experimental models. The numerical models allow analysing the behaviour of hip replacement inside of bone structures.
