ABSTRACT:
This paper is focused on the dynamic behaviour of four full-scale coarse recycled aggregate concrete structures by means of modal identification. A finite element model was made for each structure and its Young’s modulus was calibrated with the values obtained from the tests made. The response pattern of the structures was not affected by the recycled aggregate in-corporation and the aggregates used had a small influence on the Young modulus of concrete. One of the mixes included a superplasticizer that more than offset the loss of stiffness caused by the use of recycled aggregate. Only the use of the coarse fraction of the recycled aggregate was considered since the fine fraction tends to have a more detrimental effect on concrete properties [González-Fonteboa and Martínez (2007) and Sato et al. (2007). To the author’s best knowledge, this is the first study made regarding the dynamic behaviour of full-scale recycled aggregate concrete structures.
