ABSTRACT:
The aspect ratio of the cavities, heat generation due to high shear stresses, friction and wear of molding surfaces are factors that have an important influence on the functionality and quality of the microcomponents produce by injection molding, as well as the durability and performance mold tool. One possible solution is the application of ceramic and metallic thin films. These films have high hardness, wear and cracking resistance and low friction coefficient. In this paper, several samples were produced in order to characterize diferent molding geometers. These samples were then coated by physical vapor deposition (PVD) with TiN, CrN and AlTiN films and characterized by means of XRD, EDS for their constituents, their morphology by optcal and electronic microscopy and their rugnesss and hardness.
